ASTORIA -- The old White Star Cannery boiler, a stark and solitary reminder of Astoria's past, may get historic designation.
The city's Historic Landmarks Commission has filed an application to designate the property with the old boiler, a pile field and ballast rocks in the Columbia River west of Second Street as historic.
Astoria is the seat of Clatsop County, Oregon, United States.[7] Situated near the mouth of the Columbia River, the city was named after the American investor John Jacob Astor. His American Fur Company founded Fort Astoria at the site in 1811. Astoria was incorporated by the Oregon Legislative Assembly on October 20, 1876
